Sugar Bowl Website Launched

The Mauldin High School Band proudly announces that our Sugar Bowl Website is now up for your review. The link is http://www.mavband.com/sugarbowl. From here, you can find links to very important pages that will describe in more detail. Included are: costs involved, Mavband Rules / Responsibilities, a sample Itinerary, FAQ's, Safety Precautions, Competition Info and links to other projects associated with this trip.

Our trip will cost about $835, and nearly all the funds can be raised by volunteering at various fundraisers. That's right, simply selling Cheese Nachos, working the Greenville Drive Games or participating in other fundraisers can pay for almost your entire trip.

As Mr. Scheuch has stated, "This is a once-in-a-high-school-career opportunity as we only plan events such as this on a 4-year basis." Don't let the cost involved deter you from being part of this historic event.

Keep checking back on our website for more details over the next few months. Want to know how much longer you have til the big day? Check out the countdown window in the Info Center on our home page.

That's all for now!

Marching Season Ends Strongly

Congratulations to our band, the staff and Boosters for completeing another fine marching season.

Saturday, the band performed the best show they have ever done this season. Although they were short by just .15 points from making the top 8, the band proved once more that hard work pays off. They should hold their heads high knowing that they went after their goal with 100% effort and gave it their all.

Next up are two Christmas Parades in December and our winter concert on Dec 1. Don't forget that the indoor season starts in January.

The next booster meeting will be held this Thursday at 7pm in the bandroom

As always, keep checking for more info from our website at www.mavband.com !

Mavband will reschedule the Potluck and Exhibition

Due to unfortunate circumstances last week, we had to postpone our Potluck Supper and Grand Finale Exhibition.

Sad as that is though, we now have a few more days to get excited about what the band is doing. The instructors and Mr. Scheuch have said repeatedly that this is the best behaved, best sounding and most cooperative bands that they have been a part of. I have seen this first hand in watching the kids this week as they interact with each other and the staff. I have been involved for over 8 years with the band, and I agree fully with the staff.

I had the opportunity to watch the band this band do their thing. The Color Guard are AWESOME. They bring the whole theme together and work well with the band. This year we have 26 color guard - all of whom are glad to be part of this group. The Pit and Drum line are tight and add a lot to the sound. Trumpets, Low Brass - including the 6 Susa's hold the bottom and middle really well while the winds add the ethereal sound to the top end.

Keep watching the website this week as we finalize the details of the Potluck and Grand Finale with the School Administration.

Mavband Website begins "Morph"

The MHS Band's website http://www.mavband.com is undergoing a much needed "overhaul". As we continue to use our vendor "Flickr" to house our incredible pictures, my time is freed up to get the things done for our site that has been desperately needed.

Things to look for over the summer months:

Gone is the front "splash" page with the animation. You can now see that animation in the "Info Center".
  • Expect the site to be developed with a section for "Members Only". Where that page will be directed to is still to come, but you can expect sensitive information regarding booster meetings, budget items etc to be found there.
  • We will use a little less "flash" programming on the site as it moves to an html and php based website.
  • Expect to see an improved and much more easy to understand "sign up page" and "sign up form".
  • Expect to see an improvement in the TOB page.
  • The Corporate Sponsors page will be updated to reflect a new advertising program. (Still to be approved by the new board.)

Keep checking back here and on the website for more info!

Speaking of pages, I will be re-designing the website over the next few months with a new look. I think you will like what we do as we improve our website for our users.

One change that I made starting today, is the creation of "SetLinks" from the media page of our site directly to each picture set that we have on Flickr. You can download any size picture as well as view each set in a slide show.

Winter Performance Units Rock Byrnes, SC

Congratulations go out to our two winter perfomance groups, Winter Drumline and Winter Color Guard ensembles as they competed in the CIPA competition held at Byrnes High School on Saturday.

Winter Drumline gets 1st Place:
That's right, our winter drumline unit won first place in the NSA class, but more importantly achieved a score of 85 points. This score won their division and also would have placed them 2nd in the next highest bracket. This is only the 2nd year that this program has been available and already we are making ourselves well known. Their scores have risen from about 65 points all the way up to 85 points in less than 3 months.

Winter Guard gets 5th out of 11 positions:
Our winter guard unit made great progress this week in achieving 5th in the NOV division. Considering that this is the 1st year that this unit has competed, we all should be very proud of our Winter Guard! This unit practices 2 or 3 times per week after school and has excellent coaching from Robin and Phillip. We encourage you to reach out and congratulate our Winter Guard unit for a great 1st season.

We will have video from both performances online this week. Keep checking back with our website for more updates!

The next competition for both groups is Saturday, March 28th. The competition is the CIPA (Carolina Indoor Performance Association) Championships and will be held at Western Carolina University. You can click on the website for more information or go directly to their site now by clicking on this link.

Thanks,

New Calendar a big hit!

Many of you have asked to have a more "user friendly" calendar than what we use on Charms. Of course what you don't know is that I update that website also....

Anyway, I have updated our new calendar with more cool features like a quick look section that has more detail.

Plans for the future include being able to print the calendar from the site. We'll keep you up to speed with that information as it comes available.

You can link directly to the calendar website at http://www.mavband.com/calendar.html

That's all for today. Expect more info on the Greenville Drive Fundraiser in the next week or two.
