New Era Begins in June

Hello and Goodbye!

It has been my sincere pleasure to be your Mavband President these last 2 years. In addition, I have been involved with this band program for a total of 9 years. I will continue on as your webmaster as long as the band and board want me to do it for you.

Mavband.com
Since its beginning, our website has grown quite a bit. At first, nobody even knew it existed! Today though, it has become a staple for our band program and continues to keep our band parents, visitors, vendors and school in the loop as to what is happening with the Mavband program. Right now, we have one webmaster and 4 assistants updating our website every week. Our media team keeps up our flickr page and continues to do a bang up job with that too.

Mavblasts:
Ever wonder what these are? Every so often, we send out a "Mavblast" of items that need your attention. We ask that every band parent and student sign up to receive the blasts as they are of upmost concern to all. You can do so by logging onto our website at http://www.mavband.com and look to the left hand side of the page. You will see the signup button there, click on it and send it to us. All information is held in upmost confidences.

Moving Onwards:
We have a new band booster president: Mr. David Moore. David comes to us with 1 year of High School band experience and a bunch of Middle School experience on their board. Please make David welcome when you see him.

In Conclusion:
As I move on towards free-er weekends in the fall, I want you all to know that I will miss you and being part of the band. I'll still show up and participate and cheer the band on at some competitions, but I want you to know that I have appreciated the support that I have been given all these years. As always, I can be reached via email at webmaster@mavband.com.

Keep in step!

Marching Mavs WIN IT ALL!

The Mauldin High Marching Mavs won the "GRAND CHAMPION" trophy at the 2010 Sugar Bowl - Bowl Games of America - Marching Competition held on Sunday. The band beat out 19 other bands in the competition making this the biggest competition that the band has ever won in its entire history. "Our kids had a great time out there today," said Director of  Bands Adam Scheuch "..and even though it was not our best performance of the year, our kids played well and they were just smiling  and having a great time. They should be very proud of themselves for the hard work this year that paid off on a national stage." Ann Miller, Principal of Mauldin High School, remarked, "I am so proud of our kids. They really worked hard this year!"

In addition to the band participating and winning it all, the band made a donation of 38 used musical instruments and $445 to "The Roots of Music" . This program provides music education in history, theory, instrumental instruction and ensemble performance. Furthermore, academic tutoring is offered to ensure the students maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in school. (source http://www.therootsofmusic.com/program.html) The Mauldin Band was the ONLY band from South Carolina to attend and the ONLY band to provide instruments and a cash donation to the band. "The Roots of  Music" band was phenomenal," Scheuch said "..they had this one kid who was really young and was playing the drum like he was a pro! They came out to Jackson Square and entertained us with a great show. This was well worth it and we are glad we had the privilege to participate in it"

The Boosters would like to thank Mrs. Miller, the staff and Greenville County School district officials for allowing our band to participate in this event. We believe that this reflects well on the School, Staff and our band program. Thank you very much.

The Band should be home by 6pm on Wednesday night after a highly successful "once - in - a - high school career" trip. Make your plans to be there for them when they get there!
